What is Chemical peel treatment ?

The Chemical peel treatment will help improve the appearance of the skin. Here, a chemical solution is applied to the skin of the patient. The skin will start blistering and then peel off completely.
The newly regenerated skin is typically smooth and less wrinkled compared to the old one. This treatment is usually performed on the face, hand and neck regions. Alpha Hydroxy acids (AHA), Beta hydroxyl acids, retinol, Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or phenol are the most commonly applied chemicals for the chemical peeling procedure.

Types of Chemical Peels

There are three broader classifications of Chemical Peels.

Superficial Peels:
Mostly done by Alpha Hydroxy Acids like glycolic acid peel or lactic acid peel and Beta Hydroxy acids like salicylic acid peel which are capable of penetrating only the outer layer of skin. These peels works to gently exfoliate and hence improve upon mild cases of skin discoloration and rough skin texture. Salicylic acid has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and also oil soluble. Hence used to reduce and control acnes.
Medium Peels:
Done using Trichloroacetic Acid ,Jessner’s peel and retinol peels. These peels have the ability to penetrate up to the middle layers of the skin in order to remove damaged skin cells. The treatment helps in reducing age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, freckles as well as moderate extents of skin discoloration.
Deep Peels:
Involve usage of Trichloroacetic acid or phenol in stronger concentrations to deeply penetrate beyond the middle skin layer and remove the damaged cells. The treatment is effective in removal of moderate line, freckles and shallow scars
Who needs this?
Chemical Peel treatment has had better results for patients with fair skin and light hair. Darker-skinned patients might also have good results depending on the condition and the treatment given.
